Robert H. Breyer, M.D.
Dr. Robert Breyer is the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and immediate past president of the medical staff at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. Prior to joining the staff at St. Joseph in 1989, Dr. Breyer held teaching positions at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University and Baystate Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine. He is the author or coauthor of 59 scientific papers.
A native of Chicago, Dr. Breyer is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana (1969) and earned his M.D. at University of Illinois, Chicago (1972). He completed residencies in general surgery and cardiovascular surgery at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago and did an additional fellowship in cardiac surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Breyer's clinical activities include all aspects of adult cardiac surgery as well as major vascular operations.
